New Modules
The
Greater Manchester Critical Care Skills Institute in partnership with
Manchester Metropolitan University are now able to offer two new modules to support acute and critical care nursing:
Essential Acute Care Module - Level 6 (degree level) – 30 credits
This module is available to registered nursing staff currently employed in acute care areas including Emergency Care, Theatre Recovery, Acute Wards.
To access this module you will be required to:
♦ Have current NMC register
♦ Be working in an acute environment
♦ Successfully completed a period of local preceptorship
♦ Have written support from your line manager
The focus of this module is to provide practitioners within the acute care setting with skills and underpinning knowledge to competently assess, plan, implement and evaluate safe effective care. Read more >
The module includes 6 taught days which cover assessment and management of the following areas:
Respiratory; Cardiovascular; Renal; Gastro-intestinal; Liver; Acute Brain Injury ;Trauma.
This module runs over six months and students are required to complete a clinical competency document in practice and an academic assignment of 3000 words.

Essential Critical Care Module - Level 6 (degree level) – 30 credits
This module is available to registered nursing staff currently employed in a critical care environment, caring for level 3 patients.
To access this module you will be required to:
♦ Have current NMC register
♦ Be working in a critical care environment
♦ Successfully completed a period of local preceptorship
♦ Have written support from your line manager
♦ Have successfully completed the Essential Acute Care Module
The focus of this module is to provide practitioners within the critical care setting with skills and underpinning knowledge to competently assess, plan, implement and evaluate safe effective care.

The module includes 6 taught days which covers assessment and management of the following areas:
Advanced respiratory and cardiovascular assessment and management; renal replacement therapy; infection prevention and control in critical care; nutrition; pain; acute neuro assessment and management; transfer of the critically ill; ethics and end of life care.
This module runs over six months. Students are required to complete a clinical competency document inl practice and an academic assignment which includes a 20 minute presentation based on a particular aspect of patient care. And produce an educational tool.

Certificate in Professional Studies (Critical Care) – 60 credits
On successful completion of both the Essential Acute Care and the Essential Critical Care modules the learner will be awarded a Certificate in Professional Studies (Critical Care).
